
Congratulations to 12 students from QE Chess and Games Club who competed in the area qualifiers for the English Schools Chess Competition at Bede Academy in Blyth. QE team A came first and Team B came third in the competition out of 6 teams. Both teams progressed to the regional qualifiers in the spring.
Ebonie Totty, who studies German, Physics, Maths and Further Maths said ‘ it was fun to meet other people who play chess’ whilst Finley Blackburn, who studies Maths, Chemistry and Biology, said ‘it was good to get real life playing experience!’.
Ed Nolan, one of the teachers who helps students run the club, said ‘We are so proud of all our students who played in the competition this evening, not only did they play some good chess, but it was lovely to see them supporting pupils in the other teams. It’s great that both teams made it through to the regionals.’
